So yeah, Comic Con '12 is done. Well, it was fun at least. I originally was going to wear my old Leon Magnus costume on two of the days but changed my mind on it (more like I didn't take it out or anything). Sure, the producer of Tales, Baba, was there but that wasn't really why I wanted to bust it out. I did not have a 4 day pass with preview night, so we'll get into Thursday.

For Thursday, there wasn't much to talk about. I went and play Playstation All Stars Battle Royale once to get it out of my system. I also did get to try out Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed at a display at Archie Comics' booth. Now, SDTekken didn't have its console room open yet but I did find a different game room and threw down in Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 (even with the sting of elimination during EVO). It made me realize how awkward it feels to try playing with a regular controller (and they were using Xbox 360, probably because this room has some ties to the Microsoft Store in San Diego). I had a hard time putting my Phoenix Wright game plan into action because the default button layout for a regular controller is different from the default button for an arcade stick. They did have a couple of arcade sticks of theirs and later on, I was able to get on their UMvC3 using one of them. I was able to give my opponent a hard time with my main team. Though the most amusing moment was any time the match started out with my Ghost Rider against my opponent's Hulk and it starts off with a Break Away war (because I predicted he was going to start the match by grabbing me and I have figured out a start of match option select for Ghost Rider). I end up learning Hulk always win the Break Away war. So yeah, I kept winning against that player.

I was feeling very sick throughout the day. It got bad that I needed to leave early that day and rested up at my sister's place. I rested up, though part of it was a problem because of drama between my sister and her boyfriend (yeah, the same kind of drama that forced me to leave Las Vegas and not see the last part of the UMvC3 finals or any of the SSFIVAE finals). Let's not get into that.

On Friday, I felt much better but I did carry some stuff to relieve any cold symptoms and brought some orange juice with me. I've come to find that my significant purchases were vintage posters from Japan. I've put that fifty dollars compensation money I got to use. I ended up at a booth, looking at the posters from Japan they had (they also were selling cels). I ended up going for one of the Sakura Wars vintage poster they had (and I was deciding between two but for now, bought this one that day). I was feeling very overprotective of it throughout the day since it would be easily ruined. I also bought the Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike Blu Ray (we'll see if I still think the same way I thought previously of this movie). I also checked out Sega's exhibit in an area outside the convention center while trying out Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed. I also spent some time at the SDTekken console room trying out TTT2 and playing Street Fighter X Tekken, reminding me that I can still see good in the game but other things are bringing it down (the mismanagement). In fact, I ended up deciding to get Gamefly to send me the game as my next rental after keeping my rental of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.

I attended the Titan of Fighting Games panel, where Harada laid out the stuff Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will have. For the record, yes, I actually did say, "Oh! Excellent!" like the Japanese voice of Lee after the bikini trailer and they asked, "What did you think?" Hey, the set up was there, with or without Lee in that trailer. Ono was also there, and Harada really went all out on the jokes towards Ono in regards to Capcom's handling of DLC (Yeah, especially in regards to Street Fighter X Tekken). Like one about getting Ryu or some other Capcom character in Playstation All Stars Battle Royale and how they'll need to pay them to allow them in. Or that they'll pay $20 for stuff TTT2 is giving out (with Ono responding, "$30!"). At least I enjoy this stuff better than the rage filled comments I tend to hear on the subject. When the panel was ending, they allow one person to ask a question and he asked about Tekken X Street Fighter, only for Harada to respond in a style of, "Panel's over! We're done!" (making fun of the fact that Namco's take on the crossover is not even progressing much or hearing anything about it).

I also ended the night doing something I haven't done in the past two years...watch a bunch of crappy cartoons. With The Avengers movie being a hot thing, they showed 6 minutes of the awful (and very poorly animated) Thor cartoon from the 60s. Yeah, my riffing on the battle scene was, "Man, this fight is more intense than a Marvel Vs Capcom match!" in a sarcastic tone. What's worse is that I happen to know they did the same thing with Captain America (and that I knew about both of these cartoons as a kid).

On Saturday, I happened to buy the other vintage Sakura Wars poster I was considering...after I bought a storage tube to keep it in (which will definitely be helpful next year). Nothing much on the purchasing side.

I did check out the Xbox Lounge to try out Resident Evil 6, though it took some time to get used to it. Still looking to get it, though. I also tried out DMC, or the Devil May Cry reboot. Honestly, it feels pretty good. Haters gonna hate, but I enjoyed it. I took a look at Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD and...it felt very off. I would doubt myself on this one if I hadn't played a Tony Hawk game in a long time. Only problem is...I was playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 on my Dreamcast last year! It's still fresh in my mind. I even was asking others about it. One person I talked to during my Sunday visit was feeling the same concern. I was telling him I was playing the second game on Dreamcast last year and way fresh in my mind to feel that something was off about it. He told me he still plays Tony Hawk games regularly, calling out the 3rd game on PC. Yep, it wasn't just me. He felt the physics was off, which is what I thought it was but didn't bring it up as any of my reasonings. So yeah, something that I thought would feel good (a greatest hits of the older games) ends up not feeling pretty good. I'll probably download the demo again and that will be the last chance.

I went back to the Archie Comics booth for a demoing of the Sonic kart racing game once again. A Sega staff member there, under Archie Comics' name (I did see him around Archie Comics' booth showing off Sonic Generations last year and did confess to being a Sega nerd), was explaining who the various Sega characters are in the game. After Aiai was talked about, I couldn't help but bring up the Dr. Doom from Assist Me and his whole, "You know who Aiai is, you're a f'in nerd!" thing and even mentioning how I told that Dr. Doom the previous Saturday that I know who Aiai is (yeah, it's still fresh in my mind). I was even explaining the context, even bringing up that Dr. Doom was saying if Sega was going to go all nostalgic over the Sega Saturn, they should be throwing in the only decent Sega character they ever created: Segata Sanshiro. The staff did respond with, "The joke's on him, since Segata Sanshiro is bound to be more obscure than Aiai." I pretty much say, "I know something more obscure than him." Maybe it's me wanting to test his Sega nerdiness despite him saying he believes me or Segata Sanshiro being some internet thing these days, that I pulled out the Sakura Wars poster I bought. At least I definitely know this Sega fanboy is legit since he does at least know about the series (which I don't really expect most people to know, even if they're working at Sega of America). Not to mention, the poster certainly wasn't of Sakura either (it was Erica Fontaine from the third game). Not sure if I should give him extra points for saying, "Sakura Taisen" because of how he refers to the series, even if the Sakura Wars logo does have "Sakura Wars" written in plain English near the actual Japanese. Well, the conversation was interesting nonetheless.

(I didn't admit this while I was there but I'm not going to lie. I would love to see Sakura Shinguji in the game. I also think it would be nice to just once see a Sega game, particularly one meant for the western audience, acknowledge the series. Of course, I will also admit that's as likely as, say, Michael Bay making a movie that isn't a mindless action movie or having no explosions at all. Okay, I was going to find another, "unlikely" analogies but I'm already tapped out, even the Tales analogies. Oh well. Back to playing as Vyse.)

Speaking of Tales, I did go and see Baba and he was signing these Tales of Xillia pictures. I got one and a Tales soundtrack. I did see a Pascal cosplay, but I was in line, so I couldn't catch up and get a picture.

I also decided to just sit in on a viewing of the Tales of the Abyss anime. This is also where it got interesting. I took a seat at random and noticed a couple of people sitting behind me. I felt they looked familiar, people I knew 3-4 years ago (a guy and a girl), but focused on trying to watch the anime. After that was over, I was going to wait to see if the guy came back (since my memories would be more confirmed with both of them there) but he was taking too long that I decided to just approach the girl and ask about it. It was who I thought it was (long story, not getting into it for now). Feels interesting that me going into a viewing of a Tales anime is how I meet these people again. I decided, until the masquerade, to hang around with them. I ended up hanging with them at Gamespot's party setup at a bar. I don't actually drink and they did know about it. I did mention being 26 and, of course, the reaction that I still look like a kid. When they decided to head to a place that looked like another bar, I decided to be on my way. (I did say I'll find them on Facebook after asking and confirming).

I watched the masquerade as usual.

Some things I remember:
*An Iron Man suit...for all the wrong reason. The designer just took a Star Wars Clone Trooper helmet and spray painted it. Yeah, it was a pretty poor one.
*Disney princesses trying to be pirate.
*C3PO and R2-D2...if they were ballerina.

Oh and there was a Skyrim-related costume and the show runners...used that overused joke. I even remarked about that I should have expected that joke. Yeah, me and my big mouth.

So, yeah, without looking it up, that's what I remember. I noticed two people sitting in front of me were dressed as a Miltank and Whitney from Pokémon before the show and decided to get their pics after the show. After that, I did actually encounter a Phoenix Wright cosplayer and he ended up going objection at me in a close enough proximity that I had to go with the quick remark about him going into turnabout mode. Yeah, he went, "That's right!" I even told him I'm one of those people nuts enough to play Phoenix Wright in UMvC3...and that I got bodied at EVO by Dormammu, Dante, Vergil, etc. (Though I didn't use the phrase, "Bodied". Just beaten badly). He mentioned that, competitively, Marvel has always been about the top tier characters and, despite him being dressed as Phoenix Wright and saying Marvel isn't a game he really plays, he said his team isn Chun Li, Morrigan, and Lei-Lei. I did tell him about my time Thursday in one of the console room that I was able to give someone a hard time with my team. He did say Phoenix Wright is a hard character to use, so yeah. I forgot to get his photo but got it later. If anything, my conversation with him does remind me of blog material where I want to write in regards to characters we play as in fighting games (the topic is, "Playing as your favorite characters vs. playing as high tier characters").

I left afterwards. My sister's boyfriend had his niece and nephew over and tried to drop a challenge for me to have Pokémon battle with his nephew (and my Pokémon White teams aren't fully trained after so long). He'll end up doing something similar when I come back to pack.

On Sunday, I didn't really do much except attended two panels back to back in the same room. Archie Comics' plan in regards to their Sonic the Hedgehog/Mega Man crossover story just to see something about it. I stayed in the room for another panel I wanted to see in regards to PASBR. Saw a video they used to pitch the game and also revealed Cole from Infamous and Jax and Daxter will be in the game. That's pretty much it. I just went to the Xbox Lounge again and Sega's display outside of the convention center until it was over.

Favorite cosplay photos:
*Whitney and Miltank from Pokémon. I don't really see anyone cosplay as gym leader whose names aren't Misty or Brock (then again they had main character status for so long and are the original), so this one is a pleasant surprise. Yeah, it probably helps, when it comes to the female gym leaders, she's my 3rd favorite (2nd being Jasmine and 1st, of course, being Erika...and having to say that without being confused with Ms. Fontaine).
*Okay, my personal favorites were definitely Pokémon related. Another interesting surprise was one where someone actually built a robotic Ivysaur alongside Charmander, Poliwag, and Espeon. This one really stood out.
*Earthworm Jim! A character from a classic platformer but don't see something like this. Yet, we have one! Groovy! (The guy in the costume seem to respond with groovy when some say it)
*More like a figure rather than cosplay. Someone actually made a figure out of Non-Specific Action Figure. Don't know what I'm talking about? Watch this.

Other cosplay photos:
*Pac Man and ghosts. 2
*Kamen Rider. Just be glad that it isn't Segata Sanshiro under there.
*Rydia and Cid from Final Fantasy IV.
*Nemesis from Resident Evil 3. I would say my nightmare returns but I'm pretty sure I know the match up with Ghost Rider.
*Duff Man! Partying at San Diego Comic Con! Oh yeah!
*Dante. Because he has to show off outside of Marvel too.
*Phoenix Wright and Ema Skye. Almost didn't get this one due to Marvel Vs Capcom talk but I had to because I'm nuts enough to play him.
*Thanos.
*Taken on Friday the 13th. I should have been aware Jason was out, ready to kill again.

Misc photos:
*Capcom's RE6 display.
*Me with Sonic.
*Me with Ono.
*Huge red Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers statue.
*A picture of all the Red Rangers from Power Rangers...and the White Ranger (Yeah. It's because the 6th Ranger was the only suit from the Super Sentai series Dairanger they used in the second season of Power Rangers).
*Power Rangers display at Namco Bandai's booth. The head busts are actually Super Sentai imports and they actually displayed the red ranger from Dairanger.

I actually have any other photos in this album if you want to see what I didn't get to link. (Password is: letmein)

So, yeah. A fun time, but just like with my trip to EVO, drama did bring some of it down. There is no more on site registration, so now I have to see how I'm going to get next year's pass.

Oh and note to self. I'm really going to need to see about getting that Cless Alvein costume I've been wanting to do done. Heck, even something else I'm not going to disclose for the time being.
